ChChChilled' at a Freezing Frostbite Camp

Well it certainly lived up to it's billing. Just back from our annual PL Frostbite camp at Walton Firs, it was only the one night but a very cold one, so very well done to all the brave Scouts who took part.

On the edge of the woods at the bottom of the hill a large Bivouack was constructed, fires were set and hike tents pitched in the woods. Fetching and chopping the wood certainly helped keep them warm, the Scouts all cooked their own dinners on open fires, after the traditional 1st Shepperton Supper of Hot Chocolate and cakes it was time for bed and six of the nine Scouts actually braved the by now sub-zero temperatures to spend the night in the bivvy (to be honest we couldn't have squeezed any more in if we'd wanted to but it helped keep them all warm).

Sunday morning dawned bright and extremely chilly but everyone was soon up re-lighting fires and after breakfast
enjoyed air rifle shooting, followed by a visit to the tuck shop for a mid morning energy boost. Then we started to strike camp, and drag all the gear up to the mess tent at the top of the hill. After lunch of toasted sandwiches in the embers of the main fire we packed the van and headed back to HQ.

A great adventure and good to know we can survive without creature comforts if we need to.
Big thanks to all the parents who helped with the packing and unpacking at HQ it certainly speeded things up.
Hope you all enjoyed it. See you at Tenderfoot - Justin
