District Night Hike

Very well done to Jack, Harry, Alfie, Sam, Reuben and Lewis who took part in the District Night Hike on a starlit and thankfully rain free, Chobham common on Saturday. They joined troops from Ashford, Charlton, Laleham and Staines to complete over 5 miles of hiking and activities from 7.30pm 'til well past midnight!!

It was certainly a fantastic effort by all six boys and they completed most of the 14 activity bases (despite getting a bit lost on a couple of occasions). Think we need to brush up on those Map Reading skills.

Final finishing time and points to be announced when we have them from the organisers, but a great night, if a long one, and we hope you all still managed to get up in time for Mothers Day!

Thanks also to Geoff and Carl who joined me, running a very cold and windy base N5 (NB. The farthest from base camp ;-).

Justin.

Yes it really was this dark

Another Great St. George's Camp at Walton Firs

Seven Scouts joined a small team of leaders and helpers last Friday for the first night of the St George's Day Camping weekend at Walton Firs in Chobham. Not only did they pitch their own hike tents but cooked their own supper as well (very nice bacon sandwiches lads!).

Saturday morning greeted us with a short shower of rain at about 6am after which the boys were up and they set about collecting firewood, cooking breakfast and some even managed some washing up!! Following a successful morning learning about the correct and SAFE use of axes, saws and knives it was down to cooking lunch over an open fire and then an afternoon orienteering.

Sunday dawned bright and sunny and the Scouts were joined by Beavers and Cubs from 1st Shepperton along with many other troops from across the District to enjoy the many activities on offer to celebrate St George's Day.

A fantastic effort by all those involved (especially Dave P. who was there for most of the weekend despite suffering from the lurgy!! - Get well soon.)

Justin.

Successful Annual General Meeting 2009

A well attended AGM was held at Group HQ on Wednesday 3rd June, chaired by Peter Woodgate and GSL David Fern.

Plenty of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and their parents joined the trustees, Leaders and volunteers to hear about the work of the group over the last 12 months.

We successfully appointed, elected and re-appointed most of the positions available (Estate Manager and Quartermaster still needed!) and then Carol Davies our District Commissioner addressed the meeting with some targets for the next 12 months.

Throughout the evening all sections had badge and award presentations and following the meeting close by David Fern cheese & wine was enjoyed while viewing the many displays of work and talking to parents and helpers.

Thanks to all those that attended.
